This is a self portrait I took with my phone staring into a large photograph of Tiananmen Square at MoMA. Perhaps I should have held up solely my middle finger instead to show support of the 1989 protests that took place there… just as Ai Weiwei has in the following shot.

In 2012 I’ve started a journey that will take me to many places. There is no set plan - a few ‘want to’s and even fewer ‘need to’s - and the only goal is to understand. I want to travel to as many places near and far as I can budget and allot time for over the next few years. It’s not for the sake of experience. It’s not for the love of meeting new people despite my desire for both. I want to understand the world as a vast living creature and feel at peace with my place in it.
